Personal case Analysis
“The Coffee shop” is an organization that leads with employee care first, combined with customers and community. There is a family feel within the organization even though it is a big corporation. The Coffee shop has been in business for over 50 years and has evolved from a coffee/tea shop to a coffee, tea, blended beverages, and food shop. It has developed an environment of compassion for supporting its community's around such things as hunger relief, refuge support, veterans issues, disaster relief, and helping its employees to have free tuition to earn a bachelors degree. This organization is a for-profit company but balances this with genuine concern for world- wide issues and supporting relief efforts in the United States as well as internationally. I have been with this organization for 13 years, first as a barista, then Shift supervisor, Assistant Manager, and now General Manager. I have led many different sized teams at drive thru/cafes, and cafe only. With this organization's help, I have been empowered to engage and participate in events that support issues that I’m passionate about such as food drives, holiday drives, packing lunches to give out to people that are houseless, business workshops for foster youth, and development of employees within my organization. I have met many different people, had struggles and joy, have greatly challenged myself, and enjoyed every minute. I look forward to many more “minutes” in this organization.
The situation I will analyze is based on the past two years of my leadership journey during COVID-19 and the changing environment caused by this pandemic. I will specifically focus on staffing shortages, dealing with local and federal mask mandates, and most recently the vaccinated/unvaccinated employees. The mandates, policies, and guidance has changed quickly, sometimes within hours. As a leader who is responsible for the health and safety of myself and my team, it has been stressful to say the least! The next five frameworks will provide information that will support my care for my team and peers.
