In leadership roles conflict resolution is a skill that is utilized with employees. It is important to empower employees to problem solve between themselves and ensure you are there to mediate if they cannot come to a resolution. When mediating conflict between two employees it's essential to remain objective, and to guide them to a compromise and or resolution.
Artifact: This document is from OGL 340. It was an exercise to help us to identify our communication and response patterns that can either escalate or neutralize the conversation.
Reflection: Reviewing this assignment has me thinking about how quickly I can get caught up in negative pattern of communication. We all learn unhealthy ways of engaging in conversations, but once we are aware is when change needs to happen. One of my big opportunities is not to go into defense mode, because once I'm there I don't hear anything else, but my own mind working on my next response. Remaining focused on the objective, facts, and not on the emotion leads to a positive outcome.
